20th Annual Bocce Ball Tournament
Doug Ross passes the title of Bocce Champion to Jeff Krotky as Jeff defeated Matt Wingerd 21 – 16 in the final. Jeff also performed so well this year as well as the other years he has competed, that he now sits atop the Bocce Hall of Fame as the career leader in points per appearance. Jeff made it to the finals by defeating Steve Frake by a score of 21 – 14. The other semi-final game saw perhaps the biggest comeback in Bocce history as Matt Wingerd came back from a 20 – 8 deficit to beat Doug Ross 22-20. Seeking a desperation attempt after a slow start, Matt started playing a very short game and won the next two rounds 4-0 and closed the gap to 20 – 16. Doug was then unable to regain his champion composure and three rounds later saw his chances to repeat as champ come to an end. Not satisfied, Doug went on to defeat Steve Frake in the 3rd place game.
In the bean bag tournament, Mony Kim was once again victorious and still remains undefeated in the 5 years we have held the tournament. I think someone needs to check him for performance enhancement drugs next year. Matt Wingerd was the unfortunate soul who got the attempt this year to knock Mony off his perch, but was unsuccessful and lost the first two out of three games in the championship.
Thanks to Beth & Steve Frake, Jessica & Jeff Krotky, Brian Koziel, Chris Schletter, Jim deBeers, and Doug Ross for supplies and helping to set up the tournament. The weather was once again perfect with low humidity and temperature right around 80 degrees.
Thanks to all for coming out and making this another successful tournament and we hope to see you all at the 21st annual tournament next year!
