16th Annual Bocce Ball Tournament
By defeating 2003 Champion Jim deBeers, Robert Wingerd (Dr. Bob) became the 3rd player in tournament history to win the championship at least two times. His day started out bleak however as after the first round he thought he had lost. Scott Swearingen had “beat” Dr. Bob 21-20 in the first round. However, after the two had sat down thinking their match was over, someone came up to them and reminded them the rule where the winner must win by at least 2 points. They went back on the field and Dr. Bob scored three additonal points to win 23-21. The championship match was close with Dr. Bob defeating Jim 21-16, other players with a strong outing included 3rd place finisher Scott Sadowski and 4th place going to the 2002 Champion, Mony Kim.
This year we also held the first annual Bean Bag Tournament where Mony Kim defeated Matt Wingerd in a back and forth duel.
Special thanks goes out to Janice and Joseph Lesch for hosting this year’s tournament. The great weather along with their incredibly large lawn made for another fantastic tournament. I would also like to thank Brian Koziel, Karen Bosek, Chris Schletter, and Joe Elke for helping with additional set up.
Thanks to all for coming out and making this another successful tournament and we hope to see you all at the 17th annual tournament next year!
